Where We Work
USAID’s CSP supports Lebanese communities by improving basic services and enhancing economic opportunities for underserved communities in the North, South, and Beqaa Valley.
The program also carries out emergency response interventions in other areas across Lebanon, such as wildfire risk reduction interventions in Mount Lebanon and activities to restore communities affected by the Beirut Port blasts on August 4, 2020.
Provision of Essential Equipment to Britel Public School
CSP provided needed equipment to Britel’s public middle school: one 15 KVA generator, two photocopy machines, playground benches, 10 first aid kits, and 15 whiteboards, as well photocopiers and computers.

Increasing Women’s Economic Opportunities Through Support to Fissane Agricultural Cooperative
CSP is providing the cooperative with needed equipment: pruning shears, rotary tillers, and one manual tiller trailer.

CSP is implementing an activity to improve farmers’ technical skills in irrigation, pruning, and soil management. CSP provided the village with 10 electric pruning shears, five semi-automatic rotary tillers, two wood shredders, and two trailers.
Improving Public Safety in Ghazze Through Construction of a Retaining Wall
CSP supported the municipality of Ghazze by rebuilding a 70-meter-long retaining wall on the town’s main road.
Provision of Essential Equipment to the Intermediate Public School of Hawch El Arab
CSP provided the Hawch er Rafqa intermediate public school with safety, security, and needed technical equipment, as well as supported its rehabilitation works, including pouring new layers of concrete with proper reinforcement.
Installation of Solar Lighting in El Khiara
CSP supported the El Khiara municipality in saving costs and enhancing local security through installing 44 solar street bulbs on existing poles along the entrance of the town, and 15 new solar light poles on inner roads.
Rehabilitating the Main Irrigation Channel in Ras Baalbek
This activity aims to support farmers in Ras Baalbek through improving water provision services and optimizing water supply. The activity will include replacement of the available 1800-meter irrigation network pipeline.
Installation of a Water Filtration System at Intermediate Public School of Saadnayel
CSP improved quality and access of potable water for all students through installing new filtration equipment.
Improving Electricity Service in El Ansar
CSP is supporting El Ansar through the provision and installation of a 75 KVA generator, including ATSs, fuel tank, slab on grade, fire extinguishers, earthing system and fence. The generator is intended to provide electricity to the municipal building, the sports court and the village’s main square consisting of four main roads that are the most frequented by residents. CSP will also install 3,000 meters of 13-millimeter cable wires to link the generator to 85 streetlights. Consequently, CSP will contribute to lighting the streets for almost 650 households and three public gardens.
Optimizing the Solid Wastewater Management System of El Manara Village
CSP is supporting El Manara’s solid waste management system through the provision of 99 metal, weather-resistant recycling containers with a capacity of 900 liters.
Provision of a Solar Energy Water-Supply Pump and Upgrading the Sultan Yaacoub-Loussiya’s Water Network
CSP is working with Loussiya Municipality, in coordination with the Beqaa Water Establishment (BWE) to upgrade the water pumping system, install solar panels, provide a new generator as a backup power supply system, and build the capacity of the BWE to sustain the CSP-upgraded network and ensure it is connected to all neighborhoods.
Construction of a Retaining Wall and Side Rails in Nabi Ayla
CSP is enhancing the public safety in Nabi Ayla by constructing of a new retaining wall (133 meters) including asphalt cutting, excavation works, concrete works, backfilling and asphalt reinstatement; as well as installing 60 meters new guardrails on existing concrete wall.
Construction of an Elevated Water Tank in Talia
CSP is resolving the water crisis in Talia by constructing an elevated water tank of a capacity of 300m³ and rehabilitating the existing operation room, including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, and chlorination systems, as well as protecting the available cables and transformer, and supplying the fire extinguishers.
Improving Hygiene and Sanitary Conditions for Workers at the Port of Beirut
CSP supported in the provision of 8 mobile latrine rentals (chemical toilets) in the Port of Beirut to be used by maintenance workers and port officials while rehabilitating damaged buildings following the aftermath of the Beirut Port blast on August 4, 2020.
Installing Up to 500 Led Streetlights to Promote Safety and Security in Eastern Beirut Neighborhoods Affected by the Port of Beirut Blast
In its emergency response efforts, CSP installed up to 500 LED lightbulbs with galvanized arms to replace the destroyed/ damaged sodium lights following the aftermath of the Beirut Port blast on August 4, 2020. The installed LED lights lower energy consumption by 60% and have a 5-time longer lifespan than the sodium lights; this reduces light pollution, as well as maintenance and replacement costs on the Beirut Municipality.
Emergency Response Community Clean-Up in Marfaa, Rmeil, and Medawar Neighborhoods in Response to Beirut Blast
CSP supported in rubble removal, street clearing, cleaning and disposal via Labor-Intensive Works, in its recovery efforts following the widespread damage caused by the August 4, 2020 Beirut Port blast.
Supporting the Municipality of Aslma Ech Chaab Through Solar Intervention
CSP is installing two on-grid solar farms to reduce the cost of electricity on families and businesses, also allowing the municipality to re-allocate its budget previously allocated for electricity costs towards other essential services.

Supporting the Municipality of Anane Through the Provision of Efficient Street Lighting
CSP is replacing 143 old streetlights bulbs with LED-bulbs streetlights. CSP is also installing 26 complete solar powered lighting systems with all needed accessories. This activity will reduce cost burdens on the municipality and increase sense of security among residents.
Rehabilitating the Nahr Joz Main and Tertiary Irrigation Canals to Optimize Water Resources for Chebaa Residents
CSP is implementing an activity that will reduce the water losses in the main line irrigation system and convert channels to pipes, in order to enhance irrigation practices.
Completion of the Existing Solar Street Lighting System in Kfar Jarra
CSP is replacing and installing a total of 120 streetlights with solar LED in different locations across the village.

Labor-Intensive Works in Forest Management Activities and Cleaning of Irrigation Canals in Al Hasbani Area
CSP, in partnership with the Association for Forests, Development, and Conservation (AFDC), is creating short-term work opportunities for Lebanese residents in eight villages in the Al Hasbani Municipal Union (Nabatieh). The works include cleaning up, pruning, and trimming foliage along roadsides and public land, picking up recyclables, and recycling and disposing of larger materials.
Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) Labor Intensive Forest Management Activities in Chouf Aaley Area
CSP is partnering with the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) to provide temporary income for more than 150 residents to carry out a series of short-term, labor intensive works that reduce fire risk in the area. The works include cleaning up, pruning, and trimming foliage along roadsides and public land, picking up recyclables, and recycling and disposing of larger materials. This activity addresses emergency needs in Damour, Mechref, and Kfarmatta – three villages hit hardest by the October 2019 wildfires in Lebanon.
Supporting the Sorting from Source Initiative in East Saida
CSP is procuring and distributing recycling bins to benefit six municipalities and is supporting and expanding an awareness campaign including door-to-door visits and townhall sessions.
Construction of an Elevated Water Tank in Jinsnaya
CSP is constructing a 300-cubic-meter elevated water tank to provide Jinsnaya’s residents with a more equitable distribution of water. The CSP-provided tank, which will be fed from a source in Jinsnaya, will meet residents’ basic water needs and reduce pressure on the rest of the system. The activity is also expected to alleviate the economic burden on residents who previously had to pay to truck in water.
Improving Livelihoods of El Qariye Residents by Supporting a Community Market-Place
CSP is equipping the El Qariye municipality’s rundown event space with kiosks, tents, benches, sunshades, and toilets. This intervention aims to improve the incomes of four local small businesses and 14 of El Qariye’s most vulnerable women-headed families by providing them with a year-round event space to sell their homemade products and seasonal goods.
Supporting the Municipality of Rachaiya El Foukhar Through the Provision of Efficient Street Lighting.
CSP is replacing 220 nonfunctional lightbulbs with LED-type bulbs and connecting 70 of them to a municipal generator to ensure that they continue operating during state-electricity cuts.
Providing Equipment to Arc En Ciel in Response to the 2019 Latest Wildfires
CSP is supporting Arc en Ciel by providing them with all needed equipment to regain operations following damages by the 2019 wildfire. The activity aims at ensuring that Arc en Ciel continues its support to the most vulnerable communities in Damour and surroundings.
Emergency Response to Damour Wildfires
CSP replaced all damaged electrical cables and water networks in the area. This activity is expected to address emergency needs in communities affected by the wildfires damage in 2019, allowing them to also re-gain access to water supply.
Supporting the Municipality of Jinjlaya in Enhancing Access to Water
CSP provided, installed, and tested a medium-voltage generator as an alternative power supply to improve the water pump’s operating capacity. CSP also successfully upgraded the pump’s control panel to reduce the voltage it consumes. This activity is enhancing the water supply for residents in three underserved southern villages.
Supporting the Cooperative of Olive Growers in Tanbourit
CSP provided eight mechanical harvesting machines to facilitate the efficiency of farmers’ harvesting operations and enhance their livelihoods.
Upgrading the Ain Ebel Municipal Festival Grounds to Support Local Economic Integration and Cultural Events
CSP is carrying out an activity to boost the local economy by supporting Ain Ebel’s tourism industry. In addition to upgrading the municipality’s summer festival space, CSP is developing a historical and cultural hiking trail throughout the area.
Supporting the Municipality of Bqasta in Enhancing Access to Water CSP
CSP is constructing a 300-cubic-meter elevated tank that will collect water from two existing wells, ensuring that all village residents have regular access to water.
Provision of Water Filtration in Hasbaiya
CSP is installing a water treatment plant for the two main water tanks in Hasbaiya. The water treatment plant will provide safe water for residents’ domestic uses and will enhance the municipality’s capacity to deliver better services.
Enhancing Solid-Waste Collection and Sorting from Source Efforts in Mieh W Mieh
CSP supported the Municipality of El Miye w Miye by launching a recycling campaign, including the provision of 200 red waste bins of 360-liter capacity for recyclables, and 246 grey bins of 240-liter capacity for non-recyclables and organic waste.
Installing Solar LED Lights in Old Saida Alleys
CSP is planning to procure and install 48 LED lightbulbs to illuminate a 465-meter narrow path connecting the Old City with contiguous, newer neighborhoods. CSP is also providing solar panels, with the required batteries and equipment (inverters and cables) which provide power to these light bulbs.
Enhancing the Capacities of the Jurd El Qaitea Union Villages in the Response to Natural Hazards
CSP is providing the union with a fire response equipment truck, in order to respond to the village’s continuous risk of forest fires.
Construction of a Rainwater Drainage System in Kfaryashite and Bisebaal
CSP is supporting the municipality of Kfar Yachit/Bisbeel through the installation of a new rainwater collection system that consists of a 760m long pipe along with around 19 manholes on the side of the Kfar Yachit and Bisbeel main roads.
Supporting the Municipality of El Bourj in Enhancing Access to Water
CSP is installing an on-grid solar system for two water wells, enabling continuous water access to all village residents.
Supporting the Municipality of Tikrit in Enhancing Access to Water
CSP is installing an on-grid solar system for the vilalge water pump and a 150-meter water connection pipeline. This activity will ensure continuous energy source for the water pump, thus increasing its operating time and allowing farmers to access water and irrigate around 200 hectares of lands.
Supporting the Municipality of Mazraat Et Teffah in Enhancing Access to Water
CSP is installing a solar system for the village water pump to ensure continuous energy source for the water pump, allowing the residents of Mazraat et Tefah constant access to water.

CSP is installing a solar system for the village water pump to ensure continuous energy supply and allowing farmers to access water and irrigate their agricultural plots.
Enhancing the Municipal Solid Waste Management in Majdlaya
CSP is providing 65 steel solid waste bins to the municipality of Majdlaya, and installing four large recyclable collection points in the village.
Supporting the Municipality of Batroun by Connect Three Neighborhoods to the Main Wastewater Network
CSP is installing a 1,660-meter-long wastewater network for 3 neighborhoods (Jlayse, Jaayel and Bayader) in Batroun. The intervention aims to eliminate street-flooded wastewater, reduce the risk of underground water contamination, and prevent the disposal of 53,000L of untreated wastewater per day in the sea.
Constructing a Sewage Network in Haret El Fouwar
CSP is constructing a 1000-meter sewage line (10-inch wide with manholes every 25 meters) to connect a major neighborhood with around 270 households to the main sewage line linking Haret El Fouwar to the Tripoli Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Labor-Intensive Intervention in El Qalamoun – Dedde
CSP is developing and equipping a hiking trail of 1.7 kilometers connecting El Qalamoun in Tripoli District to Dedde in Koura. CSP will perform works needed for the trail with the purpose of making the hiking trail attractive to visitors. Labor-intensive works (LIW) is a short-term (3 weeks to 3 months) intervention focused on providing local populations with employment and income through improvement, repair and maintenance of productive public infrastructure and assets.
Through this activity, selected workers from both communities will implement ground levelling, stone rearrangement, concrete pouring where needed, and clearing the area for the hiking trail.
Support to the Municipality of Khirbet Daoud on Enhancing the Provision of Electricity
CSP is implementing a collaborative intervention to upgrade the village’s electrical transmission system, where Electricité du Liban (EDL) funds the transformer, the newly established municipality offers the land, and CSP constructs the transformer room, while also conducting an awareness campaign to highlight the benefits of electricity conservation.
Supporting the Solid Waste Sorting System in Ras Nhach
CSP is launching a six-month sorting from source campaign in the village, including providing 400 recycling bins to households and six collection points which will reduce the tonnage of waste that needs to go to landfills and hence prevent any open-air dumping and burning of garbage.
Supporting the Municipality of Khirbet Ej Jendi’s with an Electrical Backup System
CSP is providing a 400-KVA generator to the Khirbet Ej Jendi Municipality to replace the 360 KVA generator that has been running since 2013. The new generator will run along with an existing 250-KVA generator that was put in service in 2017. Both generators will supply all residents with an alternative source of energy.
Supporting Olive Farmers in Barghoun and Badbhoun by Providing Mechanical Harvesters
CSP distributed 15 harvesters accessible to all farmers in both villages. Mechanical harvesters decrease the cost of harvesting by about 50 percent, allowing the farmers to save some 25 percent of the cost of producing olive oil.
Addressing the solid waste management crisis in Bechmizzine
CSP is carrying out a three-phase activity to provide Bechmezzine’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF) with the equipment and resources it needs in order to enhance productivity and efficiency, thereby enabling it to nearly double the amount of processed waste — from 939 tons to 1,697 tons. The intervention includes co-designing a viable business model with the MRF, providing it with essential collection and processing equipment (collection bins, back-up generator, truck weigh scale, etc.), and providing technical assistance related to the business model and the operations and maintenance of the equipment. CSP will also conduct an awareness campaign on sorting at source that will target the 18 villages the facility will be able to serve.
Supporting Solid-Waste Management in Berqayel
CSP provided the village with 60 large steel garbage containers, two collection points for recyclables, and a street sweeping accessory. The activity is supporting to increase the municipality’s waste collection capacity, and accelerate the waste collection process.
Rehabilitating the Irrigation Distribution Network in Aachach, Meriata, and Arde
CSP is supporting farmers’ livelihoods in the three villages by constructing a semi-automated water distribution station, and reconstructing irrigation channels that feed the agricultural lands. This activity provides another source of irrigation water and reduces the cost of production by eliminating farmers’ need for water trucking.
Supporting the Municipality of Niha in Enhancing Community Services
CSP supported the municipality through the provision of streetlights, a skid snow blower, and garbage bin lids.
Supporting Salam Public Mixed School in Bebnine
CSP supported the school through infrastructure rehabilitation and provision a conducive learning environment by providing needed equipment.
Supporting Al Mourabia Marzouka Al Mouzakzek Public School for Girls in Bebnine
CSP supported Al Mourabia Marzouka Al Mouzakzek Public School for Girls by rehabilitating the school’s walls and roofs to prevent flooding of classrooms, providing a conducive learning environment. CSP also provided the school with other needed equipment.
Supporting Farmers Affected by the Syrian Conflict in Noura
CSP provided farmers with a rotary tiller and its accessories to support the cultivation of greenhouses and lands.
Rehabilitating the Water Pumping System in Mouanse and Nsoub
CSP is replacing the existing submersible pump and providing two booster pumps to distribute water to both villages independently.
Improving Sales for a Rural Cooperative in Fnaideq
CSP supported the cooperative to design and implement a mobile point of sale (i.e. mobile kiosk), giving visitors and tourists the chance to have breakfast and purchase goods from the mobile kiosk. This will significantly enhance the cooperative’s profits.
Ensuring Proper Water Flow in Kfar Hilda
CSP enhanced the proper water flow in the village’s irrigation channels to support farmers in ensuring agricultural production and increasing their livelihoods.
Supporting Jdaidet el Qaitaa Women’s Cooperative for Agricultural Products
CSP completed the construction of a new location for the municipality, to offer the cooperative a permanent and cost-free space for its operations.
Construction of a Supporting Wall in Markebta
CSP supported the design and construction of a 70-meters long, three-meters high retention wall to prevent soil erosions at the main entrance of the village. The wall limits the risk to public safety and closure of the main road connecting the village to the surrounding area.
Enhancing the Wastewater-Management System in El Mahmra
CSP connected households in el Mhamara to the main wastewater network and to the Tripoli wastewater plan.
Supporting Olive Farmers in Akroum
CSP is improving the economic prospects of olive farmers and decreasing their costs through the provision of a decanter and generator.
Supporting the Union of Municipalities of Jabal Akroum in Enhancing the Provision of Water Services
CSP provided a pump that ensures sustainable water supply into the main reservoirs that distribute water to the residents of Akroum and Kfartoun, via gravity, on a three-day rotating schedule. The pipeline will carry water for around 600 meters with an elevation up to 40 meters.
Supporting Qabaait Public Middle School with the Provision of Equipment
CSP provided 200 desks, 26 desktops and chairs, and 13 computer desks to the Qabaait public school. CSP also installed 60 window shutters prior the ahead of the summer.
Improving the Sorted Solid-Waste-Collection Capacity of the Union of Al Fayha’ Municipalities
CSP supplied the Union of Municipalities with 15 new collection points (each with two big bins), 15 cage bins especially designed for school usage and placed in 15 schools, and 40 garbage bins for pedestrians in the old city markets (or souks). With the support of the Municipality of Tripoli and Fayha’ Union, the garbage bins will be distributed to identified locations on the region’s map.
Support the Municipality of Deir El-Ghazal with the Provision of Electricity
CSP is supporting the municipality of Deir El Ghazal by providing a 400 KVA generator. This activity also allows the municipality to divert its savings on generator repair into other essential services such as sorting solid wastes from source and completing the playground and recreational space construction works.
Support the Municipality of Aaiha with the Provision of Electricity
CSP is supporting the municipality of Aaiha by providing a 450KVA generator and installing 50 light fixtures on the main street, as well as implementing a viable business model for the operation and metering of the generators in the area to ensure continuous access to electricity. This activity will also allow the municipality to ensure proper water supply and divert its savings on generator repairs into other essential services.
Improving the Solid Waste Management System of Makse Village
CSP is reducing collection costs on the Municipality through the provision of 64 street recycling bins.
Support the Municipality of Majdel Aanjar in Enhancing Access to Water
CSP is installing a solar system for the village water pump and providing all necessary electro-mechanical accessories, earthing, lightning, and monitoring systems, as well as conducting rehabilitation work in the chlorination room.

This activity is responding to a priority need in the community through replacing up to 850 streetlights with LED Bulbs, and allowing the municipality to re-allocate the budget previously committed for lighting for other essential services.

CSP is responding to a priority need by enhancing the safety and security of residents through the installation of 86 LED streetlights along the most populated and main streets in the village, and allowing the municipality to re-allocate the budget previously committed for lighting for other essential services.
Support the Municipality of Bechwat in Optimizing Irrigation Practices
CSP is upgrading the water pumping system in Bechwat and installing solar panels; it will also provide the necessary electro-mechanical accessories where necessary and rehabilitate the existing water transmission lines from the booster pump to the water tank, estimated about 1,500 meters.
Supporting Seedling Production at the Cooperation Without Borders (CWB) Nursery in Ras Baalbeck
CSP is supporting farmers with low-cost high-quality seedlings to increase livelihoods and preserve over 250 hectares of agricultural land.
Provision of Electricity in Dahr El Ahmar
CSP is supporting the municipality of Dahr el Ahmar through supplying and installing a 450 KVA generator including fire extinguishers, earthing system, and minor rehabilitation in the existing electrical system to generate power to the 308 households. CSP will also provide technical assistance on the operation and maintenance of the generator.
